Sinai Federation of Temple Youth

SFTY, which stands for Sinai Federation of Temple Youth, is the Temple's High School youth group (grades 9-12). SFTY is part of NFTY (North American Federation of Temple Youth), the national Jewish Reform teen movement, and NFTY-GER, NFTY's Garden-Empire regional group.

A youth group is a place for teens to come together, learn from one another and engage in meaningful and fun social programming. Together, we pursue tikkun olam, personal growth, youth empowerment, and deep connections, all rooted in Reform Judaism.

We invite everyone to join us,  make a new friend and become apart of the SFTY family. If you have any questions about SFTY or have ideas for events, please contact Ilana Schear, SFTY@templesinaibc.org.

Meet our Team!

Ilana Schear, Youth Group Advisor

Hi Temple Sinai! I'm Ilana Schear and I am so happy to be joining the Temple Sinai Community. Growing up in the Reform Movement, throughout High School I was actively involved in NFTY-GER, was Social Action Vice President of my TYG board in Franklin Lakes, NJ, and was a participant on NFTY in Israel and Mitzvah Corps. I graduated from Goucher College with a degree in Communications and Media Studies and a minor in Political Science. In 2016, I joined the Union for Reform Judaism Teen Travel Programs team as the Registrar and Communications Coordinator. It is such an honor to have since sent thousands of teens on the NFTY in Israel and Mitzvah Corps summer programs. After living in Brooklyn, NY for the last 3 years, I am officially back in New Jersey as of August 2018. Please do not hesitate to email me at sfty@templesinaibc.org if you have any questions or would like to get involved in SFTY!

Rachel Jacobus, Assistant Youth Group Advisor

My name is Rachel E. Jacobus, and I have been involved at Temple Sinai since I was three years old. I started in the Early Childhood Center and continued through Religious School Graduation, while simultaneously working in the Religious School Office throughout High School. Due to my continued involvement, Temple Sinai has always held a special place in my heart. Since my Jewish identity was created, and continues to thrive as an adult here at Sinai, I have always wanted to share what I have learned with high school students in the community and now I can do so as the Assistant Youth Group Advisor. I was involved in a Jewish sorority at Rutgers University and held over 10 programming positions during that time. I graduated from Rutgers in May 2018 and am currently working at the Jewish Federation of Northern New Jersey in their Synagogue Leadership Initiative Department focusing on Community Outreach. I look forward to meeting everyone and working closely with you in the Youth Group! If you have any questions or ideas for the Youth Group, feel free to reach out to sfty@templesinaibc.org
