Membership Overview
With a rich history in Bergen County, Temple Sinai is home to a close-knit community that embraces the principles of Reform Judaism.
The great contribution of Reform Judaism is that it has enabled Jewish people to introduce innovation while preserving tradition, to embrace diversity while asserting commonality, to affirm beliefs without rejecting those who doubt, and to bring faith to sacred texts without sacrificing critical scholarship.
At Temple Sinai, our youngest family members gain their first exposure to Judaism in our outstanding Early Childhood Center. Education for children continues through our Religious School, Bar/Bat Mitzvah, Confirmation, and our youth programs. For congregants of all ages, there are lifelong learning opportunities, including Torah study.
Social action activities also define our community. We offer established programming consistent with the principles of tikkun olam, helping to repair our world.
For many, music forges a path into spirituality and worship. Shabbat worship at Temple Sinai incorporates music, including participation from our students. Each Religious School grade learns to sing the prayers and leads an entire Friday night service each year. All of our B’nei Mitzvah students chant their Torah and Haftarah portions using traditional trope. On the Shabbat when they lead services and become a Bar/Bat Mitzvah, each student conducts the service and leads the congregation in song. Post-Bar/Bat Mitzvah students and lay leaders chant Torah and Haftarah portions on the holidays and throughout the year.
We are a warm and vibrant congregation of diverse ages, interests and religious backgrounds. Our members gather together here from throughout Bergen County and beyond.
