K-3 Curriculum
Kindergarten through Third Grade
Sundays: 9:30 – 11:30 a.m.
Each week, students in kindergarten through third grade participate together in a musical service.
Kindergarten – Introduction to Judaism through Holiday Celebrations
Goal: Students will explore Jewish holidays and Jewish symbols.
Overview: Being a child in a Jewish family is a significant theme within our kindergarten curriculum. Children learn about Jewish symbols and Jewish holidays in an experiential way, featuring music, storytelling and services. Basic Hebrew blessings are part of the kindergarten program.
Topics: Jewish holidays and symbols, the synagogue, basic Hebrew blessings, Jewish values, Kabbalat Shabbat, the Parent Connection (family education project)
First Grade – Judaism and the Home
Goal: Students will continue to develop their Jewish identity through the celebration of Jewish holidays and an emphasis on Bible Heroes.
Overview: Our first-grade curriculum emphasizes Bible heroes through the study of the weekly Torah portion, Hebrew blessings, and Jewish holidays and symbols.
Topics: weekly Torah portion, Jewish symbols, Hebrew prayers and blessings, Jewish holidays, Kabbalat Shabbat, the Parent Connection (family education project)
Second Grade – Judaism and the Synagogue
Goal: Students will be able to affirm their Jewish identity through the introduction of Hebrew letters, Jewish values, God, Bible heroes and Prophets, and holidays.
Overview: Second-grade students are introduced to Hebrew letters. Ethical and moral values are emphasized through the study of biblical stories.
Topics: holiday celebrations, Hebrew letter recognition, basic blessings and prayers, ethical and moral values through Bible heroes, Kabbalat Shabbat, the Parent Connection (family education program)
Third Grade – Discovering Traditions Through Jewish Holidays
Goal: Students will be able to affirm their Jewish identity by exploring God's partnership with man and God’s importance to us as Jews, and investigate personal and home practices as they relate to holiday celebrations and traditions.
Overview: Third-grade students learn about traditions through holiday celebrations. Students will investigate their own family traditions and create others of their own.
Topics: Exploring our partnership with God as Jews, key prayers and blessings, holidays, Kabbalat Shabbat, the Parent Connection (family education program).
