General Subject Matter

HOLIDAY CELEBRATIONS

Our Religious School celebrates Jewish holidays throughout the year with the entire Congregation through special Congregational and Family Programs. Within each grade level curriculum, the lessons of every Holiday are provided.

TIFILLAH

Students will learn the basic prayers used for Shabbat, in holiday celebrations, and in life cycle events. Children in kindergarten through third grade will have a mini tifillah service every Sunday with the cantor and director of education. The purpose of this weekly gathering is to establish a sense of community among our students, and foster relationships between our students and our staff. Grades fourth through sixth will have tifillah during their midweek Hebrew classes. This consists of a prayer service with music, basic prayers, and a story centering on lessons from the Torah, holidays, life cycles and God.

MUSIC

The Sunday music program includes songs connected to each grade level's curriculum.

ART

Each grade experiences appropriate and curriculum-related art projects on an ongoing basis.

FAMILY SHABBAT SERVICE AND DINNER

Third-grade students receive their first Siddur (prayer book) at a special Shabbat service, preceded by a family dinner. Students in grades fourth through sixth participate in a Friday evening Shabbat service and enjoy a family dinner together preceding worship.

FIFTH GRADE PRE-B’NAI MITZVAH WORKSHIP FOR PARENTS

This workshop marks the beginning of the Bar/Bat Mitzvah process. Special materials are distributed, and the rabbi, cantor and director of education participate.

SIXTH GRADE FAMILY B’NAI MITZVAH WORKSHOP

This workshop offers our sixth-grade students and their parents the opportunity to see the Torah up close and personal. Special messages are written to students from their parents about their child’s Hebrew name. Sterling silver yads are made with each student’s Hebrew name inscribed and the Torah is unrolled completely so students can find their own Torah portions.

STUDENTS WITH SPECIAL NEEDS

The Temple Sinai Religious School takes great pride in being inclusive of all students. Every student participates according to his or her ability. We work in close partnership with parents to create individualized programs that may include supplemental tutoring or the assistance of a shadow in the classroom to ensure the most meaningful experience for every student. Parents of children with special needs are encouraged to contact 201-568-3075.
